CEREC Sprue Removal Tip
I love doing partial coverage restorations with my CEREC. I have really enjoyed using the machine for 2 and 3 surface composites that are larger than one that require just a slot prep. When I talk to people about these types of restorations, some tell me that they don’t like doing them because they can only have the sprue on the contact and they don’t like trying to figure out how much to take off. Here is a tip I’ll share that has worked well for me over the years of doing these. I take the side a pencil tip and run it over the sprue. It will mark the outline of the sprue. I just mark it and remove a bit and continue this process until the majority of the bump where the sprue was is no longer making a defined rectangle. I will then try it in the mouth. The pencil marking does a nice job of discerning the excess area and stopping me from over-reducing the contact area.
What also helps is to use single sided red articulating paper. Slip it under the restoration and insert. Adjust red as needed until is finally slips on to fit. Single sided is thinner and will not leave red marks on the prep.
