Try this bur to remove CEREC bonded e.max restoration
I have tried everything to remove bonded e.max restorations. Sometimes I think it would be easier to remove Excalibur from the rock it was stuck in. There really is no great answer but I found that there is a bur that allows me to remove the bulk of it much faster than any other. I don’t know the actual name of this bur. I call it the “wheel” bur. I have always used it for gross reduction of the occlusal table of a crown prep after using the Meisinger Occlusal Router to make depth cuts.
One day I just got frustrated using what seemed to be about 80 burs at 5 bucks a pop to try and remove the bonded e.max restoration. I decided that I’d try using the side of the wheel bur to try and remove the bulk of the occlusal table since it seems like such a hearty bur, maybe it wouldn’t break as easy. What I found was that it cut into the e.max restoration easier than any other bur I have used. I was able to remove the occlusal aspect of the bonded e.max restoration down to the prep as well as the bulk of the buccal and lingual aspect of the restoration. This just left me with the interproximal axial wall of the bonded e.max restoration, which I was able to remove with Axis Zir-cut burs. For whatever reason, this bur has worked the fastest and lasted the longest when trying to remove a bonded e.max restoration. You need to be a bit careful on the buccal and lingual due to the size and shape of the bur but it will really but down on the time it will take to remove that restoration.
how did that bur work ray? I just stumbled upon using it but wanted to see if it would help others
